Jusin Bieber's girlfriend Selena Gomez has been named in a million dollar lawsuit involving claims over the tune to the chorus of her song "A Year Without Rain"
Selena Gomez, Disney starlet and girlfriend ofJustin Bieber, has been named in a million dollar lawsuit involving the chorus of her 2010 hit song “A Year Without Rain.”
Plaintiffs Tom Luce, Brian Kroll, Lawrence Riggs and Matt Blackett, of the band Luce, claim the tune is “virtually identical” to their 2005 song “Buy a Dog” which appeared on the group’s second album “Never Ending.”
Gomez, 19, who starred in the Disney Channel series, “The Wizards of WaverlyPlace,” performed the song with her band, Selena Gomez & The Scene, also named as a defendant in the case, which was filed in the San Francisco Superior Court.
Courthouse News Service reports the complaint states that "The melodies in the chorus of both songs are virtually identical," and that the tune "was a No. 1 record on several radio stations around the United States, including WRLT in Nashville and KFOG in San Francisco, at both of which it was among the 10 most played records for the entire year of 2005".
"A Year Without Rain" was also released as a single in Spanish (“Un Ano Sin Lluvia”).
Gomez made further headlines in February when she attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on the arm of Bieber, ending months of speculation over whether or not the pair are a couple.
In 2009, Gomez was appointed a UNICEF ambassador, making her the youngest ambassador for the charity in the United States.
Gomez’ reps have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
