Johnny Depp in 'Dark Shadows' trailer

CNN's Henry Hanks has a theory: A movie without Johnny Depp wearing a wig and plenty of makeup ( *cough* "Rum Diary" *cough*), and you're taking your chances at the theater.
But put the man in some powder and eyeliner, and the odds that the movie will be good only go up from there.
We're hoping this theory holds true for Depp's upcoming "Dark Shadows," which once again pairs the actor with director Tim Burton.
In this film version of the retro ABC soap, Depp plays vampire Barnabas Collins, who resurfaces two centuries after being cursed by a witch to find himself in 1972.

look at who’s hot and who’s not in tennis.

Victoria Azarenka - in yellow

Who’s hot:
Victoria Azarenka.
Just to “bring some attention in a silly way”, she has taken to wearing slogan T-shirts. During her time in the Californian desert, she wore one which announced, ‘Best is best’ and another which declared, ‘I got this’, and after the final at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden she was telling the world, ‘Unstoppable skills’.

Azarenka is getting away with it. In part, because they’re just a bit of fun – just like the top which Serena Williams wore after winning Wimbledon one year, which asked, ‘Are you looking at my titles?’ – but mostly because she just keeps on winning. By beating Maria Sharapova in the final (the same opponent she defeated to win the Australian Open, her first slam, in January), she extended her undefeated start to the year to 23 victories. Azarenka is doing what Novak Djokovic did in the men’s game, slashing her way through the rest of the field. And the calendar.

George Clooney might have been vocal in standing up for what he believes in, but he isn't tempted to take a plunge into the politics. Two days after being arrested during a protest outside of the Sudanese Embassy, the Hollywood hunk said in a recent TV interview that he doesn't have any interest in running for office.

When appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press", Clooney shared his belief that he actually has "a lot more influence" on the humanitarian causes as an activist rather than as a politician. "No super PAC has given me money. There is no outside influence for me," the Matt King of "The Descendants" stressed.

Victoria Azarenka beats Maria Sharapova to win Indian Wells title

Victoria Azarenka made easy work of Maria Sharapova as she won the Indian Wells title 6-2 6-3 in 85 minutes.
The world number one dropped only four points on her serve in the first set before breaking her Russian opponent four times in the second set.
The win was the 22-year-old's 23rd consecutive victory in 2012 and her second over Sharapova, following her Australian Open final success.
Top seed Azarenka dropped only one set throughout the tournament.

Azarenka in numbers

  • Height : 6' (1.83 m)
  • Date of Birth : 31 July 1989
  • Singles titles : 12
  • Doubles titles : Six
  • Matches unbeaten : 23
Azarenka, who won 6-3 6-0 in the Melbourne final in January, broke the world number two in the opening game before holding her own serve to take a 2-0 lead.
Sharapova won the third game but she struggled to make any headway on the Azarenka serve, earning just four points on it in the first set.
She offered more in the second set, in California but, when she broke for the first time, Azarenka already led 3-0.

BEIRUT: Syria and opposition forces traded accusations after a car bomb ripped through a residential area of Syria’s second city Aleppo Sunday, a day after twin blasts killed 27 in the capital Damascus. The series of deadly blasts came as U.N. teams prepare for a government-led humanitarian mission and work at launching a monitoring operation to end a year of bloodshed that has seen upwards of 8,000 people killed.
They also coincided with a forceful security crackdown on opposition rallies marking one year since the first nationwide protests erupted in Syria.

Defiant North Korea says rocket launch to go ahead

North Korea rejected criticism of its planned long-range missile launch which threatens to upset its only major benefactor, China, and put relations with the United States back in the freezer just as they seemed to be starting to thaw.
Political analysts say the launch, which would violate U.N. resolutions on the heavily sanctioned state, is aimed at boosting the legitimacy of its young new ruler Kim Jong-un who inherited power after his father's death in December.
"The peaceful development and use of space is a universally recognized legitimate right of a sovereign state," the North's state KCNA news agency said.

Their bowling might struggle to defend 289 against Bangladesh. Their batting might not be resilient enough to dominate in all conditions. But in the subcontinent, India are the masters of the chase. And after having knocked off 321 in 36.4 overs in Hobart barely three weeks ago, they completed their highest successful ODI chase, in Mirpur, against Pakistan, who are not exactly a weak bowling side. And leading the mammoth effort was that man Virat Kohli who scored a career-best 183. Forget the obscenities, forget the extreme emotions; with 11 hundreds, including three in his last four innings, Kohli is one of the most complete ODI batsmen in the world now.
When a boundary is needed, Kohli is the man. When the singles are needed, Kohli is the man. When a gap is to be found, Kohli is the man. He kept doing all of that for 148 deliveries against Pakistan. By the time he was done, he had hit 23 boundaries and made 183. India had lost Gautam Gambhir off the second ball of the innings. They lost just one more wicket in the next 272. Kohli's dominance was so complete, it left contrasting support performances from Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma in the shade. It certainly meant Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed's centuries were in vain, as was their 224-run opening stand, Pakistan's highest against India, and their second-highest ever.
Not losing by a bonus point put Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup; it kept India and Bangladesh dependent on the result of the last league game between the hosts and Sri Lanka, who have been knocked out. A win for Bangladesh will see them go through, as they lead the head-to-head against India in the tournament; any other result will see India qualify.
It was Kohli who almost single-handedly kept India in the
