Why Selena Gomez Makes for a Cheap Date

Selena Gomez has everything in the world: Millions of adoring fans, a perfect tan, three Gold-certified
albums, and Justin Bieber. The singer could demand to live like a royal, and yet she actually makes for a pretty cheap date.

Her boyfriend is the second best-paid celebrity under 30 according to
Forbes. Meaning Bieber could afford to buy her whatever the hell she wants. Alas, while he has no problem spending $6 million on a mansion and cruising around town in a fake Batmobile, Gomez doesn't live nearly as gaudy a lifestyle. And here's why.

She Eats on the Cheap

Justin+Bieber in Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez Leaving IHOPThough we imagine most of you regularly snack on caviar (we just emptied out our stock of Beluga), Gomez doesn't exactly eat like a queen. The 19-year-old prefers to keep things simple, cheap, and easy. It's as if she's a teenager or something.

Lest we forget, the world first got a taste of she and Bieber's relationship when the two were spotted dining at America's favorite pancake chain, IHOP, in late 2010. Turns out the same place that offers the Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity, also offers the gateway to love. Or at the very least, cozy booths and multiple flavors of maple syrup.

Need further proof that Gomez has a taste for cheap eats? In September 2011 she and Bieber got their chicken wing fix at a Hooters, a place better known for its big breasted serving staff than its fine dining.

She Keeps Her Dates Simple... Usually
Yes, Gomez and Bieber took a trip to Maui together, but generally the former Disney star doesn't ask much from her boyfriend when it comes to date night. Bieber may have rented out the Staples Center so they could watch Titanic together. But according to TMZ, that romantic evening didn't cost him a dime.

When Gomez traveled to Bieber's hometown in Ontario, she didn't make him take her out for a steak dinner, or have him rent a hundred horses to parade her through town. Instead, she joined him for a romantic stroll around a lake, and later ate at Swiss Chalet, a chain restaurant that specializes in roasted chicken served with "Chalet Sauce."

Justin And Selena Hit Up Panera For LunchIn Utah for the Sundance Film Festival, Gomez and Bieber went ice skating with their good friend Jaden Smith. We don't know what, if anything, they paid, but the rink's website informs us you can skate all day for $14.

Speaking of ice, Bieber and Gomez took in a hockey game while on vacation in Winnipeg last October. Seeing an NHL team play admittedly costs money, but we should point out the tilt took place in Canada, a nation home to strangely colorful bills that feature hockey players and funny looking men with mustaches. For all we know, Bieber bartered a signed copy of Never Say Never and some maple syrup pie (yes, that exists) for their tickets.

She's Low Maintenance When she's not indulging in pancakes or hot wings, Gomez likes grubbing fast food. Just this week she and Bieber were spotted at a Chick-fil-A drive through in LA. And in the past, the two have been seen hiking with Subway sandwiches in tow.

Better still, even when she's not eating off the dollar menu, the singer has no problem watching her shirtless friend shove french fries into his mouth like that drunk dad at Chuck E Cheese who stole your last slice of pizza. Surely that happened to you too, right?

Whether it's due to good genes, her Catholic upbringing, or sheer luck, Gomez has grown into a low maintenance star. And in a world increasingly filled with self aggrandizing celebrities and abrasive blowhards, that's something we can get behind.
